Leading role for Jonathan

Well-known local Orangeman Dr. Jonathan Mattison has been appointed to a leading role with the REACH project.

Funded by the EU PEACE III Programme, the project includes development of two interpretative centres by the Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland at Schomberg House and Sloan’s House, Loughgall, and should complete by late 2014/early 2015.

The Schomberg House extension will incorporate a museum relating to the history of Orangeism as well as a research facility and educational resource.

The Sloan’s House refurbishment will include an additional exhibition area and detailed information on early Orange history.

As museum curator Dr. Mattison will be responsible for interpretative centre facilities and archives at both Belfast and Loughgall.

A former pupil of Dromara Primary School and Banbridge Academy, Dr. Mattison attended Queen’s University Belfast; he graduated with a BA Hons in 1999, a MA in 2000 and received a Doctor of Philosophy degree in 2005.

As a member of Listullycurran Truth Defenders LOL 616, Quilly RBP No 10 and Lower Iveagh Cultural and Heritage Society, he is well known in the wider Dromore area.

Past Master of Lower Iveagh District No1, he is a member of the Listullycurran Rural Development and Ulster Scots groups and Listullycurran Drumming Club, a former committee member of Lower Iveagh Credit Union, a former Convenor of the GOLI Educational Affairs committee, a former Orange Community Network Board member and a member of the Ulster-Scots Community Network.
