A Carnmoney teacher is looking forward to retirement after almost 25 years at Sunnylands Nursery School in Carrickfergus.

Anne Boyd marked the milestone last Tuesday with a farewell party at the unit on Sunnylands Avenue, attended by colleagues, family and friends.

“I started just after the Halloween holidays in 1988; at that time the school itself was a much smaller building but we have more facilities now,” said Anne, a former teacher at Parkhall Primary School in Antrim and Earlview Primary in Newtownabbey.

“The nice thing about Sunnylands is the continuity of staff; I have made some great friends while I have been there and I have very happy memories. We take on 52 children every year - two morning and two afternoon classes - so after 25 years that’s a lot of faces! But sometimes I still see people I have taught bringing their own children into the nursery, which is lovely.”

“Now that I’m retiring, I’m looking forward to spending a bit of time with my four grandchildren and just having a bit of a rest.”

Among those at the farewell event was Sunnylands principal Jennifer Davison, who congratulated Anne on her 25 years of service.
